mitka ist ein tontechniker und musiker aus jekaterinburg, der hauptsächlich in der filmindustrie arbeitet. wir haben ihn kontaktiert, nachdem wir ein paar seiner tracks im internet gehört hatten. seine musik hat uns begeistert, aber wir wussten nichts über mitka selbst. er spielt keine live-shows, postet nicht in den sozialen medien und generell hat man das gefühl, dass er einen asketischen lebensstil führt.

für das -sound2--album hat mitka das schlagzeug im wald aufgenommen, weil -die akustik dort besser ist als zu hause- und er kein geld für ein studio hatte. er hat sich eine gitarre selbst gebaut, weil die normale bundlage nichts für ihn ist, viele seiner kompositionen werden im viertelton gespielt. die titel der songs auf dem album sind nur mitkas notizen, um harmonien und stimmungen zu verstehen.

-sound2- vermittelt ein mystisches und cineastisches gefühl, klingt aber gleichzeitig warm und vertraut. beim hören dieses albums kann man sich einen spaziergang durch einen grünen, nebelverhangenen wald vorstellen. du weißt vielleicht nicht, wie du herauskommst, oder wie du dorthin gekommen bist, aber dein geist kann ruhig und gelassen bleiben, denn mitka wird dich leiten.

too $hort’s legendary 1992 effort “shorty the pimp” is back in effect on vinyl thanks to the hip hop preservationist at get on down. though many don’t consider this to be one of too $hort’s strongest releases, the project did move well over 80.000 in its first week of release landing at number 6 on the billboard top 200. taking the title from the incredibly rare 1973 blaxploitation film, too $hort does what he does best on shorty the pimp: funk beats, oastful braggadocio, a few conscious rhymes and layers of straight up pimp talk. the lyrical content can certainly be considered comical and entertaining. “shorty the pimp” is also a stand out project for producer ant banks who did many of the beats for the project, his first works with too $hort with many more to follow over the next decade. oddly enough, one of the best comments on “shorty the pimp” comes from a random guy on the internet who commented on his experience listening to the release, “i ran my car into a tree after listening to ‘it don’t stop’ definitely made for cars with the booming systems!”

first ever official reissue of zamba zamba by peruvian band sangre joven! originally released in 1975 by mag (lima | peru) the 7inch vinyl is hardly available and a rare latin gem. any information about sangre joven is just as rare as the vinyl: there is in fact nothing about the band to be found on the internet.

when i first stumbled across mix tapes out of hamburgs seminal front club (with klaus stockhausen and boris dlugosch at the helm) during the glorious and carefree early days of the popularized internet, there were certain tracks on them that struck a chord. in fact there was one specifically, i couldnt stop listening to. the mixture of an infectious bass line, a super sharp snare, music and harmony vocal snippets, happy claps and synths lines that evoked pictures of a convertible going down a coastline, and - to top it all off - a tribal chant, was irresistible. after some intensive track-id-hunting pre-shazam, i found out that the heaven-sent hymn was music by an act called syncbeat. originally released in 1984 during the craze that was called uk electro via street sounds resp. streetwave and later licensed to german omnivore zyx records. a joint venture between the electro-funk mastermind,dj pioneer and edit maestro greg wilson as well as manchester musicians martin jackson & andy connell, it is exactly that type of dance track that eludes any classification - as you can see from my description above. or to cite greg wilson himself from one of his essays on the subject of uk electro: the track that received the best response was music by syncbeat, which was full of good vibes and could have easily been re-vamped down the line as a house track.

for fifteen years traveling in the world of electronic music, this dj & producer has established itself as one of the most emblematic of the techno scene. he remarkably incarnates the freshness of those young artists who know how to sum up a decade of electronic culture, adding their own strength, skills and personal touch to it. the energy of his songs is also appreciated by the names of the techno world, from boys noize to laurent garnier. the latter moreover honored him by playing the key title of this ep at the time warp festival: excelsior, which had so already intrigued the internet users through a video extract of the festival. madben as for him encloses this opus with a sober and powerful remix.

those with an internet connection may be familiar with paolo di nicolantonio through his incredible youtube channel, synthmania. his channel is hub showcasing his endless arsenal of synths and drum machines from his home studio in italy. unlike his italo-heavy channel, this record consists of two original tracks, one old-school deep house number and an additional beatless juno-60 jam to boot. craigie knowes also welcome their first remixer to the label, the impeccable uk deep techno producer, john shima.

having grown up with and on the internet, martin steer (1986) has transformed its pull into a concept album that is just as immediate and intangible as the digital world. bad stream is guitars and machines vanishing in the spaces between radiohead and nine inch nails only to reemerge amidst ambient, noise, and drone. bad stream, then, is his modus operandi - a hybrid soundtrack to the feelings of resignation, isolation, and cynicism within neoliberal cyberspace and to that strangely numbing comfort of bodies transmuting into zeros and ones in real time.

what if music had no beginning, no end? can music exist for itself or of itself, without structure constraining it, defining it? can music be non-linear, non-narrative, simply experiential, existential? the second full-length album on mysteries of the deep, musica enterrada from portland’s william selman, neither answers these questions nor supposes them. but in listening, one can’t help but wonder: what if i disappeared into this record forever? in another time and place, william selman was known as warmdesk, an alias through which he issued a series of sharply precise minimal techno records. in recent past, selman shifted gears, shedding the dynamics of tension and release that characterized his previous alias output. under his own name, selman began releasing process-oriented, freeform experimental music on cassette-focused outlets like digitalis and hausu mountain. now comes musica enterrada, a diaphanous, weightless musical vision not unlike the theoretical square root of grm and popol vuhs early electronic forays. split into six tracks across two sides of vinyl, musica enterrada bubbles, churns, drifts, and dozes. dulcet tones pile up gently like waves on shore. patterns repeat and reconfigure, as if heard from different angles. rhythms appear, shift the frame, then disappear, into the ether whence they came. play musica enterrada on repeat. and if you disappear into it, fret not you have drifted into solace.

initially released on sonia e. pottinger s highly respected high note records in 1981, sonya spence s sings love lp was relatively overlooked at the time her album came out. sent on her final journey in 2007, the one-woman band leaves us with a legacy of exception. however, time and a small first pressing has made it an object of desire for collectors, deejays and lovers all around the world. and, though it was shamelessly bootlegged throughout history, it is the first that time that this bliss of an lp gets the official reissue treatment on wax, with the love and respect it deserves. beyond classic tracks let the flow on baby, where is the love and the reggae gem fantasy, this 10-tracker abounds with treasures, some of which cannot be found on the internet.
